Registration Process:

  • Fill out an Enrollment Packet; submit by clicking on the submit page or fax to 800-861-3078.  A RAR personnel will contact you.
  • Students are required to create a student account on www.raronline.education in order to enroll prior to the start date of the course.
  • The student has three days from the course start date to drop the course.  The full amount paid, minus a $100.00 Service Fee will be refunded to the student.
  • Any cancellations placed after the three day grace period will not be eligible for any refund,, you may use the amount or use the payment as a credit towards another course.

Course Requirements:

  • The student must have a valid e-mail address.
  • The student must have access to a computer with internet capabilities and a fax machine.
  • The student must have a valid phone number and mailing address.
  • The student must have a High School Diploma or GED and be able to write and speak English.
  • A student must have a basic knowledge of computers is required. (I.e. navigation, sending and receiving e-mails, uploading files and saving documents.)

Fieldwork Experience Requirements:

  • The student will complete required 96 hours;  fieldwork experience under the leadership of an “Approved” Instructor.
  • Students will be required to complete all fieldwork objectives during the required duration of the course.
  • Attention Texas Residents NOTE:  TAAP (Texas Association for Activity Professionals) is NOT an approved affiliation for this section of the course.

Course Purpose:

An advanced course for Activity Professionals which includes activity department responsibilities, a system for developing administrative practices, supervisory skills as well as communication techniques to be used in a facility and with the public. To provide an overview of diagnostic groups, assessment processes, activity programming, governmental regulations and documentation requirements for activity professionals.

 Upon completion of this course the student will be eligible to:

  • Apply to take the certification examination through the National Certification Council of Activity Professionals (*Must meet the remaining requirements to take the NCCAP examination.)
  • Apply to take the certification examination through the Consortium of Therapeutic Recreation/Activities Certification. (*Texas residents “Only”-Must meet the remaining requirements to take the CTRAC examination.)

Classwork/96 Hours/9 Weeks  Fieldwork Experience/96 Hours/7 Weeks

  • Understanding the technique of becoming an effective manager.
  • Taking a look into the different management styles and leadership styles.
  • Understanding the Activity Directors role as a manager.
  • Using leadership to work with other departments create a cohesiveness.
  • Identifying activity barriers in the workplace.
  • Understanding the activity department mission as it relates to the facility mission.
  • Creating long term and short term goals for the activity department.
  • Developing, maintaining an effective budget, while planning for innovative ways to raise funds, recycle, and ask for donations.
  • Understanding policies and procedures with facility and activity department programs.
  • Learn the theoretical framework of the organization learn the principles of management organizing.
  • Understanding theoretical framework and principals of staffing and staff development and management.
  • Understanding department staffing procedures, including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, orientation, development, performance appraisal, termination, and training.
  • Learning techniques to motivate and mentor staff.
  • Understanding who to delegate and assign tasks.
  • Dealing with unprofessional or problematic behavior within an activity department.
  • Observing and measuring staff performance and standards.
